WE CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S BEEN 15 YEARS

With this issue of Point of Light, we have achieved another milestone—15 years of publishing! In all those years, one of the central themes has been the growing convergence of science and spirituality. The pace of scientific revelations has increased dramatically in this last decade and a half, with ever more proof that what the mystics have been telling us for thousands of years is correct—we are all deeply interconnected on many levels, and any evidence of separation between us is just illusion. Telepathy, and many other psychic phenomenon, now has a scientific explanation.

One leader in this “new-edge” science is Bruce Lipton, whose book The Biology of Belief has become the textbook for how our minds have a direct impact on the cells of our body. His latest book Spontaneous Evolution, written with co-author Steve Bhaerman, revolutionizes our beliefs about evolution. Steve Bhaerman may not be a name you recognize but perhaps Swami Beyondanda—a regular contributor to our humble publication—is. The witty and irreverent Swami has been poking fun at the new-age pomposity for many years. Now as his mild-manner alter ego, he and Bruce present the clear scientific evidence that our Darwinian concept of evolution is woefully incomplete. Evolution is not slow or random. Rather, there is an consciousness behind all change, and sometimes the changes to DNA—of single-cell bacteria and human beings alike—can happen very rapidly. Steve shares some of those insights in a wild and irreverent interview in this issue, one that should leave you with a much more optimistic view of our possible future as compassion and cooperation replace competition. And make no mistake, the survival of our species is at stake.

More evidence of the fundamental shift in consciousness that is underway can be found in the work of Congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio. After receiving the annual Thomas Merton Award in November, he gave us an exclusive interview about his proposed Department of Peace—a cabinet level department that would focus on peace in our neighborhoods, peace in the world and peace in our hearts.

The question of how to create peace in our hearts is answered most eloquently by author Byron Katie, whose book Loving What Is is a step-by-step handbook on doing what she calls "The Work". She claims that The Work is essential to finding that peace, and in her interview with us she describes exactly why and how. One key question to ask is "Is it true?"

And we see the return of Vikki Hanchin with her latest article on how the rivers are alive in us. Vikki has been chronicling the changes in our society since our very first year, and is one of our most popular contributors.

It is indeed gratifying to see the things we’ve been saying for 15 years becoming more and more accepted as reality by a growing number of people. You, the reader, are the reason this is happening, and your support of our advertisers has kept us in business. We are deeply grateful for all of your support and participation in the what the Swami calls "the great up-wising of America"—that more and more of us are wising-up to the real nature of our nature. Our wish this holiday season is that we all find the peace that comes from knowing the truth.
